Angyalföld | John CHIARA' exhibition
Californian fine art photographer John CHIARA showcases his contact print negatives about Budapest sights that he created during his residency at Budapest ART Factory.
Budapest Art Factory is Pleased to present the exhibition Angyalföld by San Francisco based artist John Chiara (b. 1971) on Tuesday, May 21st, 6-9pm. The exhibition will present selected works from Chiara's residency at BAF's International Artist Residency Program 2019.

The exhibition will showcase a series of the street scenes and landscape photographs in portrait format of Angyalföld the XIIIth district of Budapest. Chiara made the photographs while driving the enormous camera around the city in the bed of a commercial pickup truck to depict the diverse textural beauty of architecture found in Angyalföld, which translates to "Dust of Angels" in English. The collection of pictures is revealing their beauty of "ikerházak" (in eng: twin houses), panel houses and landmarks of the district through color negative photographs.

John Chiara received his BFA in Photography from the University of Utah in 1995, and his MFA in Photography from the California College of the Arts in 2004. He has been an artist in residence at Crown Point Press, San Francisco, in 2006 and in 2017; at Gallery Four, Baltimore in 2010, and at the Marin Headlands Center for the Arts in 2010. In 2012 Chiara was one of thirteen international artists whose work was included in the exhibition Crown Point Press at Fifty at the National Gallery of Art, Washington D. C., and at the de Young Museum, Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. In 2015, Chiara was one of seven artists featured in Light, Paper, Process, Reinventing Photography, at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles. In 2016, Chiara's work was included in A Matter Of Memory: Photography As Object In The Digital Age at the George Eastman Museum in Rochester, N.Y. In 2018 Chiara's work was exhibited in New Southern Photography, Ogden Museum of Southern Art, New Orleans, LA, NEW TERRITORY LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY TODAY, Denver Art Museum, Denver, CO, Triennale de l'art imprimé contemporain, Musée des beaux-arts, Le Locle, CH

John lives and works in San Francisco, California.
